Coffee cake is an all season dessert and coffee companion for me. And I am physically unable to resist cinnamon swirls, warm baked apples, and soft, delicate crumb that this this healthier apple coffee cake gives me while being so much better for us than anything you’d find in the actual coffee shop.

if you know me by now, you know that healthier sweet treats are where it’s at for me. I have to have something every day, it’s like what I look forward to most at the end of a long chaotic day. And BECAUSE I love a good dessert so much, it has to be made healthier or else I just can’t justify the daily indulgence lol.

This cake is everything you’d want in a coffee cake, and nothing you don’t. I hope you love it and it becomes a cherished part of your dessert rotation as it has become for me!

Healthier apple coffee cake with cream cheese frosting

  • 1/3 cup melted butter

  • 2 eggs

  • ½ cup almond butter

  • 1/2 cup apples sauce

  • 1 cup coconut sugar

  • 1 tsp vanilla extract

  • 2 cups almond flour

  • ½ tsp salt

  • 1 tsp pumpkin pie spice (or cinnamon)

  • 2 tsp baking powder

  • 2 honey crisp apples, chopped small

Cinnamon sugar streusel
  • 3 tbsp coconut sugar

  • 1 tbsp pumpkin pie spice

  • ¼ cup almond flour

  • 1 tbsp melted butter or olive oil

Cream cheese frosting
  • 7oz container cream cheese

  • 3 tbsp maple syrup

Make it

  1. Preheat oven to 350F. Melt butter and toast until it turns golden brown.

  2. Add browned butter, eggs, almond butter, apple sauce, and vanilla to a bowl and mix.

  3. Add in all dry ingredients and mix again.

  4. Pour half of the batter into a buttered baking dish.

  5. Sprinkle with chopped apples and cinnamon sugar mix.

  6. Top with rest of batter. Sprinkle streusel topping on top and bake for approx 40 min or until a fork comes out mostly clean.

  7. Let cool before topping with cream cheese frosting. Enjoy 🙂

Mix ingredients together well.
